At what age should a child see an orthodontist?

The ideal age for a first visit is around 7 years old, or as soon as the two upper central permanent incisors have erupted.

This first visit does not necessarily mean starting treatment. Its purpose is to detect in time any signs that may require early intervention. It is better to come a little early than too late: screening makes it possible to anticipate more complex problems and to guide jaw growth.

In the Lausanne region, it is common for children to be seen at this age for a simple check-up, with the orthodontist being best placed to judge whether immediate follow-up is needed or if treatment can wait until adolescence.
