Orthodontics and its myths
|
15.1.2024

Orthodontic treatment is covered by basic health insurance.

Standard health insurance won't cover orthodontics. For this, you need to take out supplementary dental insurance, ideally as soon as your child is born or before teething starts. Generally speaking, insurance contracts provide for waiting periods. So it's best to take out insurance in advance to ensure 100% coverage. Insurance conditions vary: some reimburse 50% of costs, others up to ten thousand francs a year.

Before embarking on any treatment, we recommend that you send the estimate to your insurance company to inquire about reimbursement conditions. You'll also need to send them your payment schedule and invoice.

With a complementary dental plan, the dentist cannot contact your insurance company directly. He will issue the bill, and you will have to claim reimbursement yourself.
