Is there a link between teeth and drooling?

Drooling is sometimes linked to tongue-holding (the domain of orthodontists). The tongue enables saliva to be swallowed. Normally, children learn this mechanism by themselves. If a child is unable to do so, it's probably because he or she has difficulty using the tongue, or because the structure of the teeth makes the exercise difficult. In fact, tongue interposition between teeth is a fairly common phenomenon in children of around 3 years of age. When such difficulties arise, tongue re-education combined with tooth realignment is called for. This re-education can be carried out either with an appliance or by a speech therapist.
